Vermont beauty wins Miss Teen USA Pageant

BILOXI, Miss. -- A vivacious 5-foot, 5-inch brunette with blue eyes and brown hair was named Miss Teen USA 1993 Tuesday night.

Charlotte Lopez, Miss Vermont, won over contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia in the pageant staged at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center at Biloxi.

During the interviews of the contestants, Lopez revealed that she has spent 13 of her 16 years in foster homes. She did not indicate what happened to her birth parents.

'Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine this could happen to me,' said Lopez, who attends Bur & Burton Seminary High School in Manchester, Vt.

Lopez's latest foster parents are Jill Charles and Al Shepps of Dorset, Vt.

The first runner-up was Kelleah Ann Lloyd, Miss Indiana Teen USA, while the second runner-up was Ursula Abbott, Miss Pennsulvania Teen USA.

The pageant, co-hosted by Dick Clark and Arthel Neville, was carried on national television.
