WASHINGTON -- President Clinton has announced his intention to nominate Carol Bellamy, former president of the New York City Council as director of the Peace Corps.
Bellamy, an attorney, is a former Peace Corps volunteer and a New York state senator.
In a written statement, Clinton said:
'Throughout her career, Carol Bellamy has achieved success in both the corporate world and in her own initiatives to improve the lives of those less fortunate. I am confident she will use her experience in both of those areas to fulfill the important mission of the Peace Corps.'
Clinton also named David Sexton, a government lawyer, who worked in the Clinton-Gore transition office to be the general counsel of the Peace Corps.
