Lakers trade Benjamin to Nets

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Lakers have traded center Benoit Benjamin to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for center Sam Bowie and a second round pick in the 1994 draft.

The 28-year-old Benjamin was acquired by the Lakers along with guard Doug Christie from Seattle last February in exchange for Sam Perkins. Benjamin appeared in 28 games with the Lakers and averaged 4.5 points and 3.4 rebounds.

The 32-year-old Bowie spent the first four years of his NBA career with Portland before being traded to the Nets following the 1989 season. Bowie enjoyed his finest year in 1991-92 when he averaged 15.0 points and 8.1 rebounds.
