FCC's Marshall to start own firm

LOS ANGELES -- Sherrie Marshall, who is leaving the Federal Communications Commission at the end of the month, said Tuesday she will start her own firm to provide advice to entertainment and communications companies.

Marshall, a Republican who has been on the FCC since 1989, said the Marshall Co. will offer strategic planning, policy and acquisition advice on the emerging global multimedia market.

Marshall Co. will be headquartered in Los Angeles and have additional offices in Washington.

Marshall also said she will be a consultant to the Los Angeles-based law firm of Ziffren, Brittenham & Branca, one of the most prominent firms specializing in the entertainment industry.

Marshall's announcements follow a similar announcement earlier this year by former FCC Chairman Al Sikes that he was joining Hearst Corp. as an executive to offer strategic advice on the growing confluence of communications, information, data and cable concerns.

Prior to her FCC appointment, Marshall was a partner in the Washington law firm of Wiley, Rein & Felding and served in the Reagan White House as an associate counsel to the President.
