HOLLYWOOD -- The 13th annual Golden Raspberry Awards, spoofing the Oscars with the worst films and performances of the year, announced Monday seven nominations for 'The Bodyguard.'
Also winning multiple nominations were 'Christopher Columbus' with six, and 'Newsies' and 'Shining Through' with five each.
Three nominations apiece went to 'Basic Instinct,' 'Final Analysis,' 'Hoffa' and 'Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.'
The Razzies consist of nine categories and are voted on by 386 film professionals, critics and fans scattered throughout 30 states, England, Canada, Russia, Switzerland and Japan.
As the most reviled movie of 1992, 'The Bodyguard,' a love story between a singer-turned-actress and her hired protector, was a $100 million box-office hit although slammed by critics.
It was nominated for worst picture of the year along with 'Christopher Columbus: The Discovery,' 'Final Analysis,' 'Newsies' and 'Shining Through.'
Three stars were nominated for worst actor of 1992 in two pictures each: Michael Douglas, 'Basic Instinct' and 'Shining Through;' Jack Nicholson, 'Hoffa' and 'Man Trouble,' and Tom Selleck, 'Folks' and 'Mr. Baseball.'
Joining them in the worst actor category were Kevin Costner for 'The Bodyguard' and Sylvester Stallone for 'Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot You. '
A trio of worst actress nominations also went to stars for double performances: Kim Basinger for 'Cool World' and 'Final Analysis,' Lorraine Bracco for 'Medicine Man' and 'Traces of Red,' and Melanie Griffith for 'Shining Through' and 'A Stranger Among Us.'
Nominees for worst director were Danny Devito ('Hoffa'), John Glen ('Christopher Columbus: The Discovery'), Barry Levinson ('Toys'), Kenny Ortega ('Newsies') and David Seltzer ('Shining Through').
The Razzie's most novel nomination of the year was for Costner's haircut in the worst new star category. Other worst new star nominees were Houston in 'The Bodyguard,' George Corraface for 'Christopher Columbus,' Pauly Shore for 'Encino Man' and Sharon Stone's crotch in 'Basic Instinct.'
Razzie Award winners will be announced at a Hollywood banquet March 28, 24 hours before the Academy Awards presentations.
