Phillies sign Andersen

PHILADELPHIA -- Free-agent right-hander Larry Andersen joined the Philadelphia Phillies' organization for the second time Friday, signing a one-year contract worth an estimated $700,000.

The Phillies assigned Andersen to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League (AAA) and invited him to spring training.

Andersen, a 12-year major-league veteran, was 1-1 with two saves and a 3.34 earned-runaverage in 34 relief appearances for the San Diego Padres last season. He owns a 36-35 lifetime record with 49 saves and a 3.11 ERA.

The 39-year-old played with the Phillies from 1983 through 1986, and has also pitched for the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians.
