KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Shawn Summers returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown and Heath Shuler ran for one TD and passed for another Saturday, leading No. 8 Tennessee to a 40-0 rout of Cincinnati.
The game marked a successful return for Tennessee Coach Johnny Majors, less then a month after undergoing open-heart surgery.
Majors watched from the press box and interim coach Phil Fulmer guided the team on the sideline.
Shuler scored on a 5-yard run on Tennessee's first possession and threw a 15-yard scoring strike to Cory Fleming in the third.
James Stewart's 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, which gave the Volunteers a 14-0 halftime lead, came after the Volunteers recovered a fumble on a punt.
Summer's touchdown late in the third quarter put Tennessee, 4-0, ahead by a 28-0 margin.
Cincinnati, 0-3, allowed two more points when a center snap went out of the end zone for a safety. Mose Philips had a 4-yard run for the final Tennessee touchdown.
