Marciulionis breaks leg

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Sarunas Marciulionis of the Golden State Warriors broke his leg while jogging near his home in Lithuania and will be sidelined four to six weeks.

Coach Don Nelson said Tuesday he did not think the injury will keep Marciulionis from appearing in the season opener in November.

'Thankfully, this does not appear to be a serious injury,' said Nelson, who likened the injury to the one sustained by Utah Jazz guard John Stockton during the pre-Olympic tournament.

The Warriors said Marciulionis broke a small bone is his right fibula and sprained his ankle when he stepped on a branch or root while running through a wooded area near his Vilnius home.

Marciulionis has his lower leg in a cast. He will be examined by team physicians Robert Albo and Mal Barer when he returns to the Bay Area next week.

The 28-year-old guard was the NBA's top scoring reserve last year, averaging 18.9 points a game. He also starred for Lithuania in the Olympics and led his country to a bronze medal.
