AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons Tuesday traded veteran forward John Salley to the Miami Heat in exchange for rookie Isaiah Morris and a conditional first round draft choice.
The Pistons will receive the Heat's first round pick in the 1993 NBA Draft.
However,if the selection is among the top five the Pistons will get a second-round choice in 1993 and Miami's first round pick in 1994.
The trade of Salley was expected since draft day this past June. The 6-foot-11 forward has been disenchanted with his contract in Detroit and had threatened to pursue free agency once his pact was up at the end of the 1992-93 season.
Salley was the Pistons' first round pick out of Georgia Tech in 1986. In six seasons with Detroit, he averaged 7.5 points and 4.6 rebounds, and totaled 709 blocked shots. He became the starting center midway through the past season, replacing Bill Laimbeer.
The Pistons will receive Morris, who was the Heat's second round pick and 37th player chosen overall in this year's NBA Draft.
Morris, a 6-foot-8, 228-pound forward, averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in two seasons at Arkansas.
