Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, tops box office

HOLLYWOOD -- Giant-baby comedy 'Honey, I Blew up the Kid' romped to an impressive opening, taking in $11.1 million at 2,311 screens to top 'A League of Their Own' during the Friday-through- Sunday weekend.

The Disney release, starring Rick Moranis as a wacky scientist with a 60-foot baby boy, had been expected to take in as much as $15 million but may still become a significant hit. Many of the admissions were half-price children's tickets.

The original 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' was a sleeper hit in the summer of 1989, topping $130 million in domestic ticket sales. The sequel will probably perform well for several weeks and reach aboout $60 million.
