Jazz 111, Sonics 100

SALT LAKE CITY -- Mark Eaton scored 8 points in the final three minutes and Karl Malone recorded 37 points and 13 rebounds Thursday night, helping the Utah Jazz earn their first trip to the Western Conference finals with a 111-100 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.

The Jazz outscored the Sonics 26-9 down the stretch to win the best- of-seven series 4-1.

Utah will next meet the winner of the Portland- Phoenix series in the Western Conference finals.

Jeff Malone scored 20 points, John Stockton had 18 points and 17 assits, and Eaton added 14 points for Utah.

Eddie Johnson paced Seattle with 26 points, Derrick McKey had 17 and Rickey Pierce 16.

Seattle led 87-79 at the end of three quarters before Utah rallied to tie it at 94-94 with 3:45 to go.

Malone then hit a free throw to put the Jazz up 95-94, and the 7- foot-4 Eaton went on a defensive and offensive tear, scoring 8 of Jazz's next 10 points.

Derrick McKey's two free throws pulled Seattle within 101-100, but Utah scored the final 10 points of the game for the win.
