LONDON -- A bomb blamed on the outlawed Irish Republican Army exploded Friday on a platform in a central London railway station, injuring at least 29 commuters and shutting down the capital's entire rail and subway system.
Prime Minister John Major vowed to catch the bombers and condemned the attack, the latest in a campaign of violence against government and civilian targets in England. He said his government would not be swayed in its fight against terrorism.
'The explosion in London this morning bears all the classic ingredients of the IRA,' he told reporters. 'It's pointless. It is directed against innocent people. n
