Knicks acquire James Donaldson from Dallas

NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks, needing a backup for Patrick Ewing, Thursday night traded reserve forward Brian Quinnett to the Dallas Mavericks for center James Donaldson.

Donaldson, 34, the Mavericks' all-time leading rebounder with 4,589 boards, is averaging 6.2 points and 6.1 rebounds in 44 games this season.

The Knicks announced the trade following their 92-89 loss at home to Cleveland.

Quinnett, 25, is in his third season in the NBA after he was selected in the second round of the 1989 draft out of Washington State. He averaged 2.4 points in 24 games this season.
