Southern University fires football coach

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Southern University officials announced Sunday head football coach Gerald Kimble and his six assistants have been fired because of lack of leadership.

Kimble spent three seasons with the Jaguars, compiling a 14-18-1 record that included a 4-7 mark this year. Southern University board chairman Willie Sensley said the team often appeared in disarray with the players on the field at times left wondering what plays to run while their coaches squabbled among themselves on the sidelines.

'Evidently I didn't get the job done,' Kimble said after the vote terminating his $63,000-per-year job.
