CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns signed tight end Arthur Cox and wide receiver Lynn James to their active roster Thursday and offensive guard Hayward Haynes to the practice squad.
To make room for Cox and James, wide receiver Danny Peebles and running back Derrick Douglas were placed on injured reserve.
The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Cox, was waived by the San Diego Chargers and signed by the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins waived him on Monday.
James, originally drafted by Cincinnati from Arizona State, was waived Tuesday by the Bengals. He had seven receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown this season.
Haynes, of Florida State, was taken by New Orleans in the seventh round of last spring's NFL draft. He was waived by the Saints Aug. 27, signed to the practice squad, then waived again Nov. 11.
