TORONTO -- Toronto Maple Leafs center Mike Krushelnyski Tuesday was suspended for four games for swinging his stick at Detroit Red Wings right wing Brent Fedyk in a game last Friday.
Fedyk was not hurt but Krushelnyski was handed a match penalty by the game officials.
The suspension decision followed a hearing on the incident conducted by NHL executive vice-president Brian O'Neill Monday.
'It is clear from the tape and from the reports of the officials that Krushelnyski deliberately swung his stick at his opponent and with sufficient force to cause the stick to break,' O'Neill said. 'In my judgement the match penalty for attempt to injure was the appropriate call.'
The suspension will take effect Nov. 5 unless the Maple Leafs notify the league office they waive the right t, an appeal.
