Graf wins European Indoors

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Top-seeded Steffi Graf maintained her perfect record in Zurich when she defeated Frenchwoman Nathalie Tauziat, 6-4, 6-4, Sunday in the final of the $350,000 European Indoors women's tennis tournament.

'Zurich appears to be an ideal place for me,' Graf beamed after winning the tournament for the fifth time.

She has won 25 matches without a loss during her career in Switzerland's largest city.

Graf took just 65 minutes to overpower the sixth-seeded Tauziat, although she was troubled early in the second set when Tauziat broke her twice. But both times, Graf came right back with a break of her own.

In each set, Graf broke Tauziat's serve in the decisive 10th game.

Graf said her inflamed wrist bothered her more than in the semifinal against Helena Sukova.

'I will now take a few days rest before deciding if I enter the tournament in Brighton (England),' she said. That tournament is scheduled to begin Oct. 21.
