TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed fullback Alonzo Highsmith off waivers Friday, days after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Highsmith began his NFL career with Houston in 1987 and was traded to Dallas in 1990. He played only seven games for the Cowboys last season before a knee injury ended his season. He missed training camp this year because of a contract dispute and saw limited action in two regular-season games.
Highsmith's best season came with Houston in 1989 when he rushed for 531 yards and four touchdowns. He had been the Oilers' third overall selection in the 1987 draft.
