Kings send Carr to Spurs for Schintzius

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento Kings traded veteran forward Antoine Carr Monday to the San Antonio Spurs for second-year center Dwayne Schintzius.

Carr, 30, a seven-year veteran, averaged a career-high 20.1 points per game last season, but became expendable by the Kings's depth at forward.

Sacramento, which already has Wayman Tisdale and Lionel Simmons up front, selected Syracuse forward Billy Owens with the third pick in this year's draft.

Carr, a 6-foot-9 forward, was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the 1983 draft, but began his professional career in Italy.

The former Wichita State star joined the NBA in 1984 after his rights were traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Carr played parts of six seasons in Atlanta before being traded to Sacramento on Feb. 13, 1990 along with Sedric Toney for Kenny Smith and Mike Williams.

Schintzius, who played college ball at Florida, averaged 3.8 points per game last year in his rookie season. The 7-foot-2 center Schintzius was the Spurs first-round pick in the 1990 draft.
