GRACEVILLE, Fla. -- Tommy Anderson, the father of Chicago Bears running back Neal Anderson, was jailed Friday on a charge of murder in the slaying of his girlfriend.

Anderson, 63, shot and killed the woman at her home Thursday during a domestic dispute, Graceville Police Chief Bruce Ward said.

The woman was identified as Laura Mae Tyson, 37.

Tyson's two children, ages 7 and 15, were in the house at the time of the shooting but apparently did not witness the incident, Ward said. Tyson suffered 'at least one' gunshot wound to the head and was dead when paramedics arrived at the scene.

Anderson, a retired businessman, surrendered about 40 minutes later at the police station and was taken to the Jackson County Jail in nearby Marianna.

Ward said Neal Anderson was notified of his father's arrest. Neal Anderson issued a statement through the team, saying he was 'distressed' at the news and was weighing whether to sit out the weekend exhibition game at Los Angeles.
