Davis, 35, will be entering his 15th NBA season and his 12th with the Mavericks. He was an unrestricted free agent.

'There was no doubt in any of our minds that he was capable of playing another year,' Mavericks General Manager Norm Sonju said, 'but we had thought he was not going to play beyond the '90-91 season.'

Davis, a 6-3 guard, averaged 5.4 points on .426 shooting with 2.9 assists in 17.8 minutes per game while playing 80 games last season. For his career, he has averaged 8.4 ppg on .511 shooting with 5 assists per game.

He enters this season as the Mavericks' all-time leader in games (850), assists (4,458) and personal fouls (1,983).
