HOLLYWOOD -- The Producers Guild of America has voted the annual Golden Laurel Awards this year to Jim Wilson and Kevin Costner, co- producers of 'Dances With Wolves.' The award will be presented March 5 at a Beverly Hills banquet.
The award will be presented by Ted Turner, who also will give awards to producers Stanley Kramer, Grant Tinker and Ken Burns for past achievements.
Kramer will receive the David O. Selznick Lifetime Achievement award. Tinker will be given the David Susskind Lifetime Achievement award in TV. Burns was voted the Norman Felton TV producer of the year award for his mini-series, 'The Civil War.'NEWLN: ------NEWLN: Emmys set
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) -- The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced its 43rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards Presentations will be televised by Fox Broadcasting Company Aug. 25 from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
The three-hour show will include presentations in 28 categories, two fewer than in previous years. The creative arts categories will be presented Aug. 24 at the same venue.
Primetime Emmy nominating ballots will be sent to eligible members June 12 with July 2 the voting deadline. Nominations for the Emmys will be announced July 18.NEWLN: ------NEWLN: Cast expansion
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) -- The cast of 'Frankie and Johnny,' starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, has been expanded to include Hector Elizondo and Kate Nelligan in supporting roles.
The story involves a cook (Pacino) and a waitress (Pfeiffer) who fall in love while working in a New York City restaurant. Elizondo plays the owner of Nick's Apolla Cafe and Nelligan plays another of the waitresses.
Garry Marshall began directing the film Jan. 29 from a screenplay by Terrence McNally that was adapted from his ownaward-winning play 'Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.'NEWLN: ------NEWLN: 'RoboCop' newcomer
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) -- Robert Burke has been cast to play the title role in 'RoboCop 3,' replacing Peter Weller, who starred in the first two 'RoboCop' action-adventure dramas.
Nancy Allen again reprises her role as RoboCop's partner in the Orion Pictures presentation being produced by Patrick Crowley.
RoboCop is a crime-fighting cyborg, a slain patrolman resurrected as a RoboCop, a law-enforcement Lazarus created to combat the forces of evil by the Detroit Police Department.NEWLN: ------NEWLN: Reynolds role
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) -- Burt Reynolds, currently starring in TV's 'Evening Shade' series, has been named to host the 17th annual 'People's Choice Awards' broadcast March 11.
It will be the first time Reynolds has hosted a TV awards special, although he has won eight People's Choice Awards in past years: favorite movie actor five times and favorite all-around male entertainer three times.
This year, Reynolds may be faced with the prospect of hearing his own name called out once again. He is one of three performers nominated as favorite actor in a new TV series.NEWLN:
