Driver killed in crash

PHOENIX -- Race driver Danny Milburn died of head injuries Sunday night following a crash in which his car hit a restraining wall during the Skoal Bandit Copper World Classic at Phoenix International Raceway.

Milburn, of Indianapolis, was fatally injured when his car got tangled with the car driven by Mark Alderson of Brownsburg, Ind., on the seventh lap of the race and careened into the wall.

Milburn was pronounced dead at 5:30 MST at St. Joseph's Hospital, according to spokeswoman Debra Gelbart.

Jeff Gordon of Pittsboro, Ind. won the 50-lap event.
