MSU football player arrested

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State University quarterback Dan Enos was arrested for disorderly conduct and spent a night in jail after being accused of urinating in public, police said.

Enos, 22, who led the Spartans to a 45-20 victory over Indiana on Saturday, was arrested about 1 a.m. Sunday on Grand River Avenue, the city's main street, said Capt. Richard Murray of the East Lansing Police Department.

Clarence Underwood, assistant athletic director at MSU, said Enos has denied any wrongdoing. MSU football coach George Perles had no comment Monday on the arrest.

MSU President John DiBiaggio said the university will not take action unless the quarterback is proven guilty.

'The student is claiming he didn't do anything wrong, that it was mistaken identity, and he has witnesses to that fact,' DiBiaggio said. 'He claims he's innocent and they mistook him for someone he was with for doing something and arrested him.'

Enos was with several friends, none of them team members, when he was arrested. Police said he was held in the city jail eight hours because he apparently had been drinking.

Enos is to appear in court within 10 days. He is the fourth Spartan football player to have problems with the police in the past two years.
