CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox will unveil their 1991 uniforms a season early, donning the new black and silver on Sept. 25 against Minnesota.

'We're responding to a request from Major League Baseball to meet the demand and make next year's merchandise available as soon as possible.

'As far as we can tell, this is a first in major league baseball -- never has a team switched uniforms in season.'

Actually, this will be the third uniform for the White Sox this season. Remember the 1917 pin-stripled suits made for the 'Turn Back the Clock' game on July 11?

The new uniforms, which will be worn forthe remainder of the current season, are white with black pinstripes. They feature a black 'Sox' with silver trim in Old English script on the left breast of the jersey.
