LEXINGTON, Ky. -- What is the ultimate Mother's Day gift?
A dozen roses? Dinner at a fancy restaurant? A ticket to Hawaii?
How about a vasectomy?
That's what one Lexington radio station is giving away Friday as the culmination of its week-long promotion for Mother's Day on Sunday.
'We weren't sure exactly what response to expect,' said Peter Delloro, programming director for WKQQ-FM. 'But it's all been positive. There are some religious connotations to a vasectomy, but we haven't gotten any negative calls. None.'
For legal reasons, the station is actually giving the winning woman $432.98 -- the going price for the operation in Lexington -- and encouraging her to spend it on her husband for the procedure.
'It's one of the gifts a husband won't give you voluntarily,' Delloro said.
Interested women were asked to call the station each morning this week during the Kruser and Company morning show and tell why their husbands needed vasectomies. The top five or six entries from each day went into a hat and the winner was to be drawn at random.
The station's promotional spot for the giveaway says, 'This is not a snip-and-go by Dr. Blade. This is a full-load, blow-'em-away $432.98 vasectomy.'
