The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Gannon, the 11th Plan B free agent to sign with the Patriots this off-season, was a third-round draft pick of the Patriots in 1989, but missed the final cut and was waived before the start of last season.

The 24-year-old Gannon, who played his college ball at Southwestern Louisiana, played in 10 games for the Chargers with one start before being sidelined with a knee injury in November.

He had 249 career tackles and 18 sacks in college.
