Charles and Diana arrive in Cameroon

YAOUNDE, Cameroon -- Britain's Prince Charles was received by President Paul Biya of Cameroon shortly after he arrived in the West African country Wednesday with Princess Diana for an official three-day visit, officials said.

The prince and Biya discussed Cameroon's foreign debt and its application to join the Commonwealth as well as British aid to the country, according to the officials.

Protection of the environment also was on the agenda, including discussion of a British project to protect the Korup National Park in western Cameroon, the region's last virgin forest.

The prince and princess of Wales arrived in Cameroon from Nigeria aboard the royal yacht Britannia and flew 150 miles to Yaounde, the Cameroon capital, from the port of Douala.

The royal couple will be guests at a state dinner Wednesday night before leaving Thursday for a tour of the English-speaking regions of western Cameroon.
