High school student breaks shot put record

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Stephanie Wadsworth of the Fort Worth suburb of Hurst broke a national high school shot put record Friday that had stood for 25 years.

Wadsworth threw the 4 kilogram shot (8.8 pounds) used by high school girls 49-10 1/2 in the high school portion of the Southwest Conference track and field championships.

That broke a record held since 1965 by Lynn Graham of Pasadena, Calif. -- a mark of 49-7 3/4.
