Chrysler introduces visor car telephone

DETROIT -- Chrysler Corp. said Monday it will soon propose a cellular telephone system installed inside the driver's sun visor on selected 1990 models.

The telephones will be available to customers in California beginning March, on large sedans including Imperial, New Yorker, and Dodge Dynasty models, and throughout the country in the fall, the company said.

The Visorphone, developed by Chrysler and OKI Telecom of Atlanta, is an industry first, the company said. It has a 100-number memory, programmed one-touch dialing, and hands free operation. It is expected to be priced at below $900, the company said.
