LOS ANGELES -- Charles Barkley scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Hersey Hawkins added 18 to help the Philadelphia 76ers snap a three-game losing streak with a 100-95 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers Saturday night.
Ron Harper paced the Clippers (10-16) with a game-high 29 points and Gary Grant chipped in with 22.
Harper's basket gave the Clippers a 93-92 lead with 1:48 remaining. But the Sixers took the lead on Ron Anderson's basket 12 seconds later.
The Sixers took the lead for good as Barkley and Johnny Dawkins hit two free throws apiece, giving the team a 98-93 cushion with 43 seconds left. Harper's basket cut it to three before two more free throws by Dawkins sealed the victory for Philadelphia (15-13).
Philadelphia held an 80-71 lead early in the fourth quarter on Mike Gminski's basket. But the Clippers erased it and took the lead, 89-88, on Harper's three-point play with 3:45 left.
Barkley, eighth in the league in scoring, at a 23.6 clip, continued his offensive effort. He scored the Sixers final nine points of the third quarter, carrying them to a 76-69 lead entering the final period.
Baskets by Grant and Harper gave the Clippers their biggest lead of the game, at 64-58 with 4:33 left in the quarter, but they could not hold on as the Sixers rallied. Barkley hit the final nine points during an 18-5 burst to give the Sixers a seven-point cushion after three periods.
Barkley scored 15 points and Hawkins added 10 in the first half. But Mike Gminski's tip-in just before the half gave Philadelphia a 47-45 advantage.
The Sixers led 31-30, with 5:53 left in the half when Barkley took over. He hit Philadelphia's next 10 points, including a pair of three-point plays to put them ahead 41-36 with 4:03 left in the period. The Clippers evened the score at 45-45 on Harper's 3-point basket and field goal. But Gminski's tip-in of Derek Smith's miss put Philadelphia back on top at the intermission.
