Nebraska 88, Wagner 67

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Carl Hayes had career-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds in his first start Saturday night to lead Nebraska to an 88-67 victory over Wagner.

Hayes, a 6-8 sophomore, scored 14 points in the first half as the Cornhuskers, 5-5, roared to a 50-26 halftime lead.

A 13-2 run to begin the game and 15 unanswered points midway through the half sparked Nebraska to its large lead.

Nebraska led by as many as 30 points in the second half before Wagner cut the lead to 17 at one point.

Three other Huskers scored in double-figures -- Richard van Poelgeest with 16, Ray Richardson with 14 and Rich King with 12.

Wagner, 3-5, was led by Parnell Woods with 18 points and Billy Kurisko with 16. Kurisko had four three-point baskets in the second half.
