Marquette 75, Morgan State 51

MILWAUKEE -- Trevor Powell tied a season high with 25 points, including nine in a deciding first-half spurt Sunday, to lead Marquette to a 75-51 rout of Morgan State.

Powell set his season high Dec. 9 against Notre Dame.

Tony Smith chipped in 12 for Marquette.

Damone Williams led Morgan State with 15.

The Warriors, 5-4, took control of the game with a 19-4 surge early in the first half.

Powell keyed the rally with a turnaround jumper and a three-point play to give Marquette a 7-6 lead at 14:41.

Powell's rebound basket capped the run, giving the Warriors a 21-10 lead at 10:08. Mark Anglavar added two 3-point baskets in the spurt.

The Bears, 4-6, pulled to within 28-19 with 4:39 to go in the first half, when Glenn Smith and Jermaine Williams hit consecutive baskets. It was the closest they would get the rest of the way.

Marquette scored nine straight points to take a 37-19 hafltime lead with 46 seconds left when Tyrone Baldwin sank two free throws.

The Bears shot only 20 percent from the floor in the first half.

Charles Solomon opened the second half with consecutive baskets to move the Bears to within 37-23 at 19:05, the closest they would get in the half.

Powell tossed in nine straight points in a 10-0 run, making it 50-27 with 11:44 to go.

Marquette's biggest lead came with 6:11 to go on Joe Krysiak's rebound basket, making it 67-36.
