Colorado St. 77, Massachusetts 51 North Carolina 106, Colorado 101

DENVER -- Mike Mitchell scored 23 points and Andy Anderson added 21 Saturday, leading Colorado State to a 77-51 victory over Massachusetts in the championship game of the Mile High Classic.

Mitchell captured the Most Valuable Player award of the tournament and Anderson made the all-tournament team for the Rams, 10-2.

Jim McCoy scored 18 points to lead Massachusetts, 4-3. McCoy also was voted to the all-tournament team.

In the consolation game Saturday, Rick Fox scored 26 points to lead No. 19 North Carolina to a 106-101 comeback triumph over Colorado. Fox was another member of the all-tournament team.

Colorado's Shaun Vandiver scored a tournament-record 35 points against North Carolina and was the fifth member of the all-tournament team.

McCoy scored 16 of Massachusetts' 20 first-half points, hitting 6 of 10 from the field. But the Minutemen shot only 27 percent in the first half.

Colorado State shot 57 percent in the first half to take a 27-20 lead at halftime.

Rafer Giles of Massachusetts scored all 12 of his points in the second half while Colorado State shut down McCoy, who only had two points in the second half.

The Rams led 67-47 with four minutes left and Colorado State Coach Boyd Grant inserted his reserves.
