TUCSON, Ariz. -- Jud Buechler scored 23 points to lead 16th-ranked Arizona to an 85-66 victory over Purdue Saturday in the championship of the Valley Bank Fiesta Bowl Basketball Classic.
Tony Jones led Purdue with 18 points, while Stephen Scheffler scored 15.
Brian Willimas scored the game's first four points, and Buechler hit a 3-pointer to give the Wildcats (5-2) and early 7-0 lead. But the Boilermakers (7-2) scored 13 of the next 14 points for a 13-8 lead.
Voted the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Buechler led the Wildcats comeback by scoring 13 points for a 38-35 lead.
Williams and Sean Rooks scored six points each in the first 5:50 in the second half to build a 52-41 Wildcat lead. Buechler quickly added eight more point to give Arizona a 64-50 margin with 8:40 left in the game, and the Wildcats never led by less than nine after that.
Rooks finished with 19 points, while Williams had 14 and Matt Muehlebach added 15. Rooks and Muehlebach made the All-tournament team as did Jones and Scheffler.
In the game for third place earlier in the evening, Penn St. defeated Wake Forest, 67-63, behind Ed Fogell's 18 points. Fogell also was named to the All-tournament team.
