Hanzlik re-signs with Nuggets

DENVER -- Bill Hanzlik, who at 6-foot-7 has played every position for Denver, Monday signed a multi-year contract with the Nuggets.

Hanzlik, a nine-year NBA veteran, is Denver's 11th all-time leading scorer with 4,045 points in seven seasons.

When injuries sidelined centers Danny Schayes and Blair Rasmussen, Hanzlik started in the pivot for Denver.

'Bill's never been regarded as one of the league's, or the team's, top scorers,' Nuggets general manager Pete Babcock said. 'But he is one of the top defensive players in the league, and his tenacious style of play is a quality we're happy to have returning to Denver.'

Hanzlik back surgery on opening day last season and missed several months. He came off the injured list Jan. 25 and played in a career-low 41 games, scoring 201 points (4.9 per game).

Seattle drafted Hanzlik in the first round of the 1980 draft. He played two seasons with the SuperSonics before being traded to Denver in 1982 for David Thompson.
