Steelers sign holdout Worley

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday signed rookie running back Tim Worley, the team's first round No. 1A selection, for a five-year contract reportedly worth $3.05 million.

The 6-2, 216-pound Worley was the seventh player chosen overall in the draft.

Worley's signing ended a 31-day holdout.

The 22-year-old Worley will report to Steelers training camp Monday at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Westmoreland County.

Worley is a native of Lumberton, N.C., who joined the Steelers from the University of Georgia.

In other news, veteran defensive end Keith Willis, who is entering his seventh season with the Steelers, has signed a new contract with the team. Terms were not disclosed.

Willis is a 30-year-old native of Newark, N.J., who originally joined the Steelers as a rookie free agent out of Northeastern in 1982.

In injury news, linebacker Vinson Smith suffered a broken right foot Saturday during the Steelers' 24-21 away victory against the Cleveland Browns. Smith was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday at Divine Providence Hospital.

The Steelers had Sunday off from practice. The team begins practice Monday at noon to prepare for next Saturday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia.
