Bucks trade Cummings to Spurs for Robertson, Anderson

By JOE DiGIOVANNI

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks traded All-Star forward Terry Cummings to the San Antonio Spurs Sunday for guard Alvin Robertson and forward Greg Anderson.

Cummings, acquired by Milwaukee from the Clippers in 1984, led the Bucks in scoring (22.9) and rebounding (8.1) this season.

'Terry Cummings is a terrifc all-round player who can play a lot of positions,' Spurs Coach Larry Brown said. 'He is a tremendous scorer and that is something we really need.'

Robertson, a three-time All-Star, has averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds during his five-year career. Anderson was the Spurs' first-round choice in 1987 and has a career average of 13 points and 7 rebounds a game.

'We all must understand from the top that the only way we could obtain a quality player like Terry Cummings was to give up quality players,' Brown said. 'Alvin Robertson and Cadillac Anderson are quality players.'

Cummings, 28, said he was disappointed about leaving Milwaukee.

'I know that it's a business transaction,' he said. 'I'm not excited about it. I've got to uproot my family.'

Cummings said he was upset the Bucks did not tell him they were attempting to trade him.

'I don't expect them to ask me because it's a business but my heart dropped because nobody had even mentioned it to me,' Cummings said. 'It's nice to know that something is being thought out.'

However, Cummings said he was excited about playing with San Antonio, a young team that plays a more open-court game than the Bucks.

'Here we played more of a half-court game,' he said. 'It will be good to get out and run again.'

Milwaukee, 49-33, was swept by Detroit in the second round of the playoffs. The Spurs, 21-61, failed to make the playoffs and will have the third pick in next month's NBA draft.
