CHICAGO -- Richard M. Daley appeared headed for victory Tuesday in Chicago's special mayoral election, but at least one of his opponents campaigned hard to the last minute, hoping for a political miracle. Daley, who made political history in the Democratic primary Feb. 28 by becoming the first white politician to unseat a presiding black mayor in a major U.S. city, took time out to visit his father's grave to 'put everything in perspective.'
