WASHINGTON -- Gannett Co. Inc. said Thursday it has completed the sale of the Sturgis (Mich.)
Journal and the Fremont (Neb.) Tribune to Hometown Communications Inc. of Little Rock, Ark.
Purchase prices were not disclosed.
Gannett acquired the Sturgis Journal in 1980. Its daily circulation is 8,500. The 11,800-circulation Fremont Tribune was acquired by Gannett in 1977.
With the sales, Gannett's total number of daily newspapers is now 85, including USA Today, the announcment said.
Gannett also owns 35 non-daily newspapers and USA Weekend, a newspaper magazine, and operates 10 television stations, 16 radio stations, Gannett News Services and the largest outdoor advertising company in North America.
