DURHAM, N.C. -- Danny Ferry scored 26 points after Duke retired his jersey Saturday to lead the 12th-ranked Blue Devils to a 102-77 rout of Kansas, avenging a loss to the Jayhawks in last year's Final Four.

Ferry was one of five Blue Devils scoring in double figures as Duke won its fifth straight.

Robert Brickey had 16, Alaa Abdelnaby 14, and Phil Henderson and John Smith each scored 10 forDuke, 19-4.

Milt Newton scored 18 and Freeman West 16 for the Jayhawks, who fell to 16-10 with their seventh straight loss. Kansas needs one more win to join Kentucky and North Carolina as the only schools with 1,400 victories.

Ferry's jersey No. 35 was retired in a ceremony before the game. He is only the fourth Duke athlete to receive such an honor, joining fellow basketball All-Americans Dick Groat, Mike Gminski and Johnny Dawkins.

Duke, which has won 50 straight non-conference games in Cameron Indoor Stadium, lost to Kansas 66-59 in last year's national semifinals. The Jayhawks went on to beat Oklahoma for the title.

Ferry had 20 points in the first half and Duke built as much as a 20-point lead before taking a 53-34 advantage at the break.

Kansas led only at 2-0, then the Blue Devils ran off 11 straight points. The Jayhawks cut their deficit to 16-13, but Ferry had a 3-pointer in a 7-0 spurt and Duke gradually built its lead.

Duke shot 63 percent in the first half with Ferry making 9 of 12 tries. Kansas shot 55 percent but had 15 turnovers and got 15 less attempts than the Blue Devils.

Kansas never threatened in the second half. Duke had a 25-point lead on several occasions.
