WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior Glenn Tropf equaled a career-high with 28 points Saturday night to lead undefeated Holy Cross to an 85-80 victory over Boston College.
Tropf scored 20 points in the second half, as the 6-0 Crusaders beat the Eagles for the first time since February 14, 1981.
Boston College, 6-3, had won the last seven games of the series.
Eagles senior guard Dana Barros scored 32 points, while Steve Benton tallied 19 points.
The Crusaders, off to their best start since the 1977-78 season, also received 15 points from Dwight Pernell and 15 from Grant Evans. Senior guard Glenn Williams, the national leader in assists, had six in the game and recorded the 500th of his career.
Holy Cross took a 26-14 lead with 10:36 left in the first half on three-point shots by Joe Viviano and Lorn Davis. The Eagles scored eight straight points after a time-out to cut the lead to 26-22 with 8:26 remaining. Holy Cross took a 41-38 halftime lead.
Boston College tied the score 76-76 with 3:48 to play. A drive by Pernell made the score 80-78 and gave Holy Cross the lead for good.
