Parkinson says she slept with six congressmen

WASHINGTON -- Former lobbyist Paula Parkinson admitted in an interview that she had sexual relations with six congressmen, two of whom -- Rep. Jack Kemp, R-N.Y., and Rep. Guy Vander Jagt, R-Mich. -- are still in office.

In an interview Friday with CNN's 'Larry King Live' television talk show, Parkinson also named three former Republican congressmen - Thomas Evans of Delaware, Tom Hagedorn of Minnesota, and Tom Railsback of Illinois.

She declined to name the sixth man, also a Republican, saying: 'The gentleman was single, he was free, white and 21. I was free, white and 21.'

None of those named by Parkinson could be immediately reached for comment.

Parkinson gained notoriety almost a decade ago when it came to light that she had shared a cottage in Atlantis, Fla., in January 1980, with three congressmen, including Evans, Railsback, and Vice President-elect Dan Quayle.

Parkinson, a former lobbyist who later posed for Playboy magazine, admitted at the time that she accompanied Evans on the trip. She later said Quayle tried to flirt with her, a charge she repeated on the CNN interview show.

'He asked me point blank if he could go to bed with me, and I said, I told him I was with Tom Evans,' Parkinson said, adding that she did dance intimately with the Indiana senator but nothing happened except 'a little kissy face, huggy, feely, you know, but that's it.'

As a result of the weekend, the FBI investigated Parkinson, then a 30-year-old lobbyist for an insurance industry group that opposed legislation to set up a national farm crop insurance program. The bill passed the House in September 1980, with Evans, Railsback and Quayle voting against it.

Evans admitted to his affair with Parkinson in a tearful news conference with his wife at his side. He later lost his reelection bid as did Railsback, whose defeat was blamed partly on redistricting and partly on his connection with the Parkinson affair.

In the interview, Parkinson said she had a 'brief affair ... a fun affair' with Railsback before meeting Evans. She said she had a 'very deep relationship with Tom Evans for a long time,' adding: 'The other ones were just flings.'

In previous interviews on her sexual activities, Parkinson named Kemp, a conservative congressman who earlier this year made an unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination. She did not describe her involvement with Kemp on CNN, saying only that he, Evans, she and another unnamed woman once spent time in a hotel room.

'We spent till late hours. You know they did have, Jack had to get home to his wife and kiddies,' Parkinson said.

When asked about Vander Jagt, who heads a committee that works to reelect Republican congressmen, Parkinson said: 'I met him at the Capitol Hilton (in Washington, D.C.), a long ... I mean, when I met Evans ... in fact, it was the same day that I met Evans.'

She said Vander Jagt later called her at her office, adding: 'The secretary I had was from Michigan and she knew his voice. It was hysterical, because he'd try to disguise his voice when he'd call and she'd say it's Guy like that.

'And so finally he called and I was by myself and he said, 'can I come over,' and I said, 'fine,' and he said, 'I'd like to talk to you about some deals,' and I said, 'OK.' And so he came over and it just happened,' Parkinson said.

Parkinson gave no details of her alleged liaison with Hagedorn.

She moved to Dallas in 1981 and lives in the Dallas suburb of Mesquite under her maiden name, Paula Laham. She has worked in a variety of jobs in the Dallas area, mainly as a waitress.
