George McQuarn, the head basketball coach at Cal State...

FULLERTON, Calif. -- George McQuarn, the head basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton for the past eight seasons, resigned Thursday for personal reasons, school officials said.

John Sneed, 40, assistant under McQuarn for his entire tenure, has been appointed acting head coach for the 1988-89 season.

McQuarn, 47, guided Fullerton to a 122-117 record in eight years and had only two losing seasons -- his first and last.
