DALLAS -- The Dallas Cowboys Tuesday waived seventh-year center George Lilja, said team spokesman David Pelletier.
Lilja injured a finger on his left hand while in training camp, the spokesman said.
He was placed on the injured reserve list before the season began and has not been on the active roster this year. Thus, he was waived from the injured reserve list.
In the 24-hour period after the waiver is announced, all NFL teams can put in a claim for Lilja, Pelletier said.
If more than one team puts in a claim, the team with worst record would have priority and would get his contract. If no team puts in a claim, he becomes a free agent.
Because of his tenure in the NFL, Lilja has the option of proclaiming himself a free agent if he is claimed by a team he does not want to join.
