He recently accepted a job as the coach of the NBA expansion Minnesota Timberwolves, who will begin play in the 1989-90 season.
Karl had a 90-42 record and won two CBA Coach the Year honors in three seasons with the Montana Golden Nuggets from 1980-83.
He coached the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seaons and directed them to two NBA playoff appearances. He then took over with Golden State and in his first season, 1986-87, led the Warriors to their first playoff appearance in 10 years. He was fired last year as the team struggled.
'We're delighted to have George Karl,' Patroons General Manager Gary Holle said. 'This is one of the biggest things to happen in the history of the Patroons. It shows our committment to go out and try to win it all again.'
