SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Houston Oilers said Monday they have traded veteran punter Jeff Gossett to the Los Angeles Raiders in return for undisclosed future considerations.

Gossett, 31, requested the trade, said Oilers Coach Jerry Glanville.

'I told him (Gossett) that being selfish, I'd like to keep him around longer,' Glanville said. 'But he's been a good person for the organization, and we wanted to be fair to him.'

The veteran kicker, in his seventh NFL season, played six years with the Cleveland Browns before joining the Oilers at midseason last year.

Also Monday, the Oilers cut 11 free agents -- safety Mike Rhone of North Texas, safety Kerry Burt of Iowa, linebacker Eric McCarty of Colorado, linebacker Darren Malbrough of LSU, nose tackle Sammy O'Brien of Texas A&M, nose tackle Ivery Lee of Georgia Tech, defensive end Arnold Campbell of Alcorn State, wide receiver Eric Tennessee of Southwest Texas, wide receiver Andre Booker of Texas Southern, tackle Andre Lockley of Tulane and guard Peter Endre of Indiana State.
