MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A University of Miami football player has been suspended from the team after his indictment on auto-theft charges, The Commercial Appeal reported Saturday.
Michael Johnson and Alreco Davis, both Miami students from Memphis, were indicted by a Shelby County grand jury Thursday, said John Pierotti of the attorney general's office.
Last fall Johnson, 20, was a redshirt freshman defensive back on Miami's national champion football team. He went to Hamilton High School in Memphis.
'He has been suspended from the team pending further investigation,' said Larry Wahl, associate athletic director at Miami.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Department was to return Johnson and Davis to Memphis from Adamsville, Ala., where they were arrested with a 1985 Pontiac Trans-Am that allegedly was stolen in Memphis.
