POTENTIAL NOBEL PURSUITS

Liz Taylor has won just about everything but a Nobel Prize for her work on behalf of AIDS research. The actress was in Athens Thursday and Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou presented her and French professor Daniel Defert with the Aristotle Award from the Alexander Onassis Foundation for their AIDS-fighting efforts.

'The tragedy of AIDS has stricken many thousands and threatens many more,' Taylor said in her acceptance speech. 'I urge you to persevere in the fight against AIDS with efforts that are renewed each day. We must give our love and support to people with AIDS.' Defert was honored for his work with Aides, a group that promotes research into the deadly disease. The foundation, which Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis started in memory of a son who died in a plane crash, also honored former World Bank President Robert McNamara for promoting social and economic cooperation among nations and Chinese Culture Minister Wang Jifu for achievements in Chinese archeology.
