Transformed from the Runnin' Rebels to the Walkin' Rebels by patient Temple, No. 7 Nevada-Las Vegas still managed to dump the fifth-ranked and previously unbeaten Owls.

Anthony Todd sank a 10-footer with three seconds remaining Sunday to cap a late rally and lift host UNLV to a 59-58 victory over Temple. The Owls led 58-51 with 4:01 to play but failed to score again.

The loss leaves co-No. 9 Brigham Young, 14-0, as the nation's only Division I school with an unblemished record.

'I just wanted to get a good shot up,' Todd said. 'I faked (Tim) Perry and he kind of froze, so I put the shot up.'

Keith James hit a 3-pointer with 53 seconds left to pull the Rebels within a point before Duane Causwell missed the front end of a 1-and-1 opportunity with 17 seconds to play.

'All my life all I wanted to do is win; I never think about losing,' said John Chaney, coach of the 14-1 Owls. 'I wish we were still undefeated. But this game is over and we'll forget it on the plane ride home.'

Temple held down the high-scoring Rebels by using a patient attack on offense, retreating quickly in transition and employing an aggressive zone on defense. UNLV's feared press was largely ineffective.

Jarvis Basnight scored 15 points and Gerald Paddio added 14 to lead UNLV, 17-1, but neither played in the final 1:42. Basnight fouled out with 4:01 to go and Paddio left with abdominal muscle spasms.

Freshman Mark Macon led Temple with 19 points.
